Accessibility Values
Accessibility Values
The River Centre concept is committed to creating a welcoming, inclusive, and accessible environment where every member of the community can participate, connect, and thrive. We believe that leisure facilities should be open to all, regardless of ability, background, or financial circumstance, and the River Centre ensures that its services reflect this commitment. By providing appropriate support, the centre promotes equality, removes barriers, and creates a welcoming environment where people of all abilities can participate with confidence.
Supporting Individuals with Special Educational Needs (SEN)
We aim to provide an environment where people with a wide range of needs can engage safely, comfortably, and with confidence. To achieve this, we offer:
• The existing SEN garden Ratty’s Refuge, as well as the Wildlife Walkway
• Sensory‑friendly spaces and equipment designed to reduce anxiety and support regulation.
• Quiet sessions for those who benefit from calmer environments.
• Clear visual communication, including picture-based signage and simple timetables.
• Staff trained in SEN awareness, communication styles, and inclusive support practices.
• Adapted equipment and activities that can be tailored to different abilities and needs.
These measures help ensure that individuals with SEN feel understood, respected, and fully able to enjoy our facilities.
Accessibility for Those on Low Incomes
We recognise that financial circumstances should never prevent someone from accessing opportunities to be active, healthy, and socially connected. To support this, we provide:
• A pay as you go approach
• Concessions for eligible individuals and families, as well as a locals discount card.
• Free or low‑cost community sessions designed to encourage participation without financial barriers.
• Transparent pricing and no hidden fees.
Our aim is to ensure that everyone—regardless of income—has the chance to experience the physical, mental, and social benefits of The River Centre.
Ongoing Commitment
The River Centre concept is dedicated to continually improving our accessibility, and has a SEN community committee for regular accountability and support. The River Centre concept welcomes feedback from visitors, families, carers, and community partners to help shape our services and remove barriers wherever possible. Every adjustment we make strengthens our role as a truly community‑centred space where everyone is valued.
