Community Consultation
Community Consultation
As the site is an important public asset, it deserves meaningful and transparent engagement with the community.
The River Centre is designed to meet the needs of local residents across all ages, while also considering the role of visiting tourists and the potential for creating valuable local employment opportunities. We have carefully aligned the vision for the Centre with existing member clubs, organisations, and local facilities to ensure long‑term community benefit rather than duplication. Even with this groundwork, we strongly believe that the community must play an active role in shaping The River Centre.
As specialists in community consultation, we understand how to engage quickly and effectively, both broadly across the community and in depth with specific groups. Over a focused two‑week period, we would deliver a mix of in‑person and online activities to ensure accessibility for people with differing schedules, needs, and communication preferences. A clear summary of insights and recommendations would then be shared at the end of this period.
Already, members of the community have begun to contribute thoughtful and imaginative ideas — for example:
• Making use of RRM/Council mooring outside of the site, and introduce a regular tin‑can boat ferry for leisure transport and educational programs, in order to generate income
• An exercise room
• Introducing sand‑based play as a kids activity!
These kinds of suggestions highlight the creativity and enthusiasm within the community, and reinforce why genuine consultation is essential to shaping The River Centre.
